The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department and supervising a team of two accounting employees. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting policies and procedures, timely completion of month-end activities, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. The Accounting Supervisor serves as a hands-on leader who supports staff development while maintaining strong internal controls and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and mentor two accounting staff members.
- Assign and review daily work to ensure accuracy, productivity, and deadlines are met.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and customer-service-oriented work environment.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial procedures.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Support external audits and provide requested documentation.
- Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Evaluate accounting workflows and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and company records.
- Assist with implementation or optimization of accounting systems and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software/ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadline
