Electrical Test Engineer - Power Electronics

This role will support engineering test and development activities for an Automotive EV OEM for validating Power Electronics systems such as inverters, DC/DC converters, battery management systems (BMS), etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the engineering test activities by applying engineering principles, experiences and various analysis tools in following established test plans/procedures to test parts/components in area of specialty to determine design feasibility and ensure parts/components meet design acceptance criteria, performance level targets and any applicable regulatory/internal standards.
  • Writing hardware and software specifications
  • Depending on functional area, have to perform objective and subjective testing by bench testing and/or vehicle level testing.
  • Review schematics, PCB designs, calculation and simulation of power electronics converters.
  • Utilize data acquisition tools to collect data, analyze and report results.
  • Conduct vehicle benchmarking for the purpose of target setting.
  • Instrument vehicles for objective tests, conduct vehicle testing on actual car and simulator.
  • Analyze and resolve problems with moderate level of guidance and direction.
  • Negotiate with other departments internally and suppliers externally to meet the spec requirements.
  • Coordinate with project teams to report status, results and develop countermeasures.
  • Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology.
  • Travel to client / test sites required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Power Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or similar and 5+ yrs Automotive Power Electronics Systems testing experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with Automotive Power Electronics Systems' testing such as inverters, DC/DC converters, battery management systems (BMS), etc required
  • Comprehensive understanding of different Power electronics circuit configurations and their control mechanisms, requirements management, function validation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and CAN structures.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical hardware and software development required.
  • Experience with Hands-on Bench and Vehicle-level testing required.
  • Hands-on experience with trouble-shooting power electronics systems including the use of lab equipment (battery simulators, power supplies, E-loads, scope, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS office.

$50 - $54 an hour
