JOB SUMMARYThe Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the nursing department. This leadership role oversees the delivery of high-quality guest care while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role involves leading and managing nursing staff, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and collaborating with other departments to enhance patient outcomes. The DON is also tasked with budgeting and resource management, staff recruitment and retention, and fostering a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive clinical knowledge, and a commitment to improving patient care and operational efficiency.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:- Providing administrative oversight of the facility's nursing services and directly supervising the facility's nursing staff.
- Develop written job descriptions for the nursing staff and assign duties to the nursing staff.
- Participating in staff orientation and staff education activities
- Hires nursing personnel in accordance with Alina Lodge standards.
- Provides ongoing education and regularly scheduled staff meetings for nurses.
- Evaluates all nursing personnel annually.
- Is responsible for scheduling and providing adequate nursing coverage on all shifts.
- Schedules annual CPR/ AED recertification courses for all nurses.
- Develops and maintains written objectives, policies, and procedures, an organizational plan, and a quality assurance program for nursing services, and reviews all nursing policies and procedures at least annually.
- Ensuring the coordination and integration of nursing services with other client care services to ensure continuity of care for each client.
- Works directly with the Medical Director, psychiatrist, psychologist, and clinical staff in planning and setting goals best designed to meet guests’ needs.
- Participating in team conferences with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provides regularly scheduled pharmacy inspections.
- Properly disposes of all medical waste and generates the appropriate forms and tracking records.
- Works with cross-functional departments to coordinate guest care.
- Is passionate and thorough about safety in the workplace and abides by all drug reconciliation protocols set forth by Alina Lodge TJC.
- Provides day-to-day care of patients by monitoring vital signs and withdrawal symptoms; administering prescribed medications ordered by the doctor; maintaining the patient's daily chart according to TJC standards; evaluating the effectiveness of care and making adjustments accordingly.
- Maintains patient files by completing nursing assessments on clients admitted to detox; making relevant entries to patient files; monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition using computerized documentation; completing discharge assessments and paperwork as required.
- Monitors patients' comfort level and does whatever is possible to help them through the detox transition period.
- Assists the physician as needed during medical history interview exams.
- On-call availability required
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field.
- Registered Nurse with current active licensure in the State of New Jersey.
- Current CPR for Healthcare Workers Required
- At least one year of full-time experience in the management of addiction treatmen t in a licensed substance use disorder treatment facility, and at least one year of experience specifically in the management of detoxification services, in addition to general treatment program experience.
- At least 5 years of progressive leadership in related fields is required.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical demands and work environment require walking, bending, standing, climbing stairs, driving, and running standard office equipment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities.
