POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and guidance of the Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer will be responsible for instructing, supervising, and reinforcing on a one-to-one basis the training techniques of individual members. They will support and guide the physical enhancement of the member through the use of safe, established training procedures with the goal being that the member grows in body, mind and spirit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.
2. Ability to recognize the need of a doctor’s consent.
3. Ability to read, interpret and recommend a fitness program after reading the doctor’s consent.
4. Ability to develop a fitness program that is appropriate for each individual.
5. Ability to communicate instructions, safety elements and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
6. Ability to track the progress of the individual and interpret results back to the individual.
7. Responsible for properly tracking payments of your particular member.
8. Responsible for keeping certifications current.
9. Responsible for working closely with the Hale Family Fitness Center Director and other strength training and floor personnel.
10. Must portray a professional image at all times, including but not limited to, wearing of staff shirt, displaying a healthy lifestyle and exhibit safe, effective training techniques.
11. The personal trainer must embrace the four core values of the YMCA, and help to promote our “family and member friendly” environment.
12. Required to attend all staff trainings and to follow and embrace all safety requirements, such as the use of personal protective equipment, the adherence to the Blood borne Pathogens prevention strategies and child abuse strategies.
13. Must work well with fitness center staff to report any malfunctioning equipment, cleaning of equipment and adherence to center policies.
14. Timesheets must be accurately completed on a daily basis, signing at the end of the week.
15. Must adhere to the house rules.
REQUIREMENTS:
· This incumbent must possess, at the minimum the following certifications: CPR, YMCA Principles of Health and Fitness, YMCA Strength Training, YMCA Personal Training or equivalent to the above.
· It is recommended that the incumbent has, as a minimum, three years experience and a thorough command of all aspects of fitness, including cardio respiratory improvement, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, nutrition and weight management.
· The ability to discuss wellness goals, objectives and limitations with individuals in depth.
· The ability to develop and sustain relationships with participants.
· Must recognize the sensitive and confidential nature of conversations and goals and treat them as such.
PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal amounts of walking, standing, sitting, running, jumping, lifting, pushing, pulling, speaking, reading, and writing found within a wellness class environment.
