Director of Accounting

Description We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to oversee financial operations for a dynamic government organization in Camden, South Carolina. This role involves managing a variety of funds, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and leading a team of professionals in billing, accounts payable, and administrative functions. Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership skills and a solid background in financial management, auditing, and reporting. Responsibilities: - Direct and oversee monthly financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting. - Manage budgeting activities, financial planning, and investment strategies to align with organizational goals. - Supervise audits to ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards. - Coordinate state and federal grant management, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to requirements. - Lead and support a team of finance professionals, including supervisors, accounts payable staff, and administrative personnel. - Monitor and manage fleet projections and related financial planning. - Collaborate with the Assistant City Manager on administrative and financial initiatives. - Oversee the implementation and integration of new metering and finance systems, ensuring data accuracy and operational efficiency. - Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to optimize department performance. - Provide strategic oversight for decentralized grant processes and reporting Requirements - Proven experience in accounting leadership roles, preferably within public utilities or similar industries. - Strong expertise in monthly close processes, budgeting, and financial planning. - Knowledge of state and federal grant management practices. - Familiarity with financial statement audits and compliance standards. - Ability to manage and mentor a diverse team of finance professionals. - Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail. - Proficiency in financial reporting and investment strategies. - Ability to oversee technology transitions and system integrations within financial operations.
