The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the vital first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare setting, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. This role is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records to facilitate smooth clinical operations. The Medical Receptionist 1 coordinates communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff, thereby supporting efficient patient flow and high-quality care delivery. Attention to detail and confidentiality are paramount, as the role involves handling sensitive patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to patient satisfaction and the overall effectiveness of the healthcare facility.
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full-Time, Medical Receptionist 1 at Center for Digestive Disease in Somers Point, NJ.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
- Manage appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient information, insurance details, and collect co-payments or fees as required.
- Maintain and update patient records accurately, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff or departments.
- Coordinate patient flow by notifying medical staff of patient arrivals and managing waiting areas.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and preparing patient charts for appointments.
- Handle billing inquiries and provide basic information regarding services and policies.

The Medical Receptionist 1 utilizes strong organizational skills daily to manage appointment schedules and patient records efficiently, ensuring smooth clinic operations. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives, facilitating clear and compassionate exchanges. Proficiency with EHR software and general computer literacy enable the receptionist to accurately input and retrieve patient data, supporting clinical decision-making and billing processes. Attention to detail is critical when verifying patient information and handling confidential data to maintain compliance with privacy laws. Additionally, problem-solving skills help address patient concerns and resolve scheduling conflicts, contributing to a positive patient experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare office procedures.
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
- Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes.
- Training in HIPAA compliance and patient privacy regulations.
