Insurance Litigation Associate - Madison, New Jersey
Job Description
Job Description
Insurance Litigation & Coverage · 3+ Years of Experience · New Jersey Bar Admission Required
For a mid-level litigator, the greatest frustration is often being trapped in the middle of a file-handling the document review and the research while someone else takes the depositions and argues the motions. This position offers a distinct shift in autonomy. A highly regarded, historic New Jersey powerhouse firm is looking for an insurance litigation associate ready to step into a full-lifecycle role, taking ownership of sophisticated matters from initial strategy through to resolution.
-
The WorkYou will manage a diverse portfolio of insurance litigation and coverage matters, moving past standard brief-writing into active case management. The firm's platform ensures you will regularly:
- Conduct and defend depositions rather than just preparing outlines for partners.
- Draft substantive pleadings, lead comprehensive discovery, and argue motions in court.
- Provide high-level strategic analysis and coverage advice directly to sophisticated commercial clients.
- Take an active, hands-on role in trial preparation and courtroom appearances.
You are an intelligent, self-directed litigator with at least 3 years of experience who no longer needs hand-holding on the fundamentals of federal or state practice.
- The Insurance Litigator: You already have a strong foundation in insurance coverage or defense and want a clearer path to trial work and strategic autonomy.
- The Commercial Litigator: While prior insurance coverage experience is a strong asset, the firm welcomes talented commercial litigators with excellent analytical skills who want to pivot their practice into high-stakes insurance disputes.
This is an opportunity to join a premier, Chambers-ranked full-service firm with a 140-year legacy in the New Jersey business community. Recognized repeatedly as a regional powerhouse, the firm offers the institutional depth, national client base, and sophisticated work of a major metro practice, but pairs it with a highly collaborative, sane working environment.
Location & FlexibilityThe firm operates on a hybrid model, requiring 2–3 days per week in the Madison, New Jersey office. This allows you to maintain elite-level practice standards and meaningful team collaboration without the daily grind of a Manhattan or inner-city commute.
Compensation and Benefits- Base Salary: $154,000 to $160,000, with earning potential up to $185,000 based on your specific qualifications and depth of experience.
- Bonus: Eligible for annual discretionary performance bonuses.
- Benefits Package: Comprehensive market-standard package including full health, life, and disability insurance; HSA and FSA options; 401(k) with firm contribution; and generous paid time off.
If you are looking to advance your litigation career on a platform that trusts your capability, let's have a confidential conversation. Your interest will not be disclosed to your current employer or any third party without your explicit permission.
