Job Summary:

Functions as a technical support contact for all sales-related activity as well as a resource for manufacturing and machine shop functions. The engineer will create all quotations, component drawings, and top assembly drawings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create quotations for custom-engineered solutions.
• Execute engineering change notifications (ECN) to engineering prints.
• Communicate with customers to create a design meeting customer’s cost and engineering requirements.
• Work with the manufacturing group to ensure the build is executed within customer timeline expectations and to design specifications.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

• Direct interaction with customers, vendors, manufacturer’s representatives, and sales personnel to determine the application requirements and most effective product design.
• Create a design that meets the customer’s technical, price, and timeline expectations. Obtain quotes from vendors. Estimate direct labor based on historic assemblies. Determine tooling needs. Identify risks and unknowns and effectively plan R&D needs.
• Provide a quotation cost estimate detailing quantities, material costs, direct labor, tooling needs, final sales pricing, and estimated delivery. Create sketches and drafts as required to further design.
• Establish production drawings, component drawings, purchase specifications, and bill of materials for new products.
• Execute engineering change orders for manufacturing prints.
• Assist in the transition of new projects to the manufacturing floor. Help coordinate vendor, tooling, production cell layout, and production ramp timelines to meet customer expectations and Douglas's commitments.
• Manufacturing support as required to support efficiency and quality goals.

Minimum Requirements:

• Mechanical engineering degree preferred. An electrical or other engineering degree would be considered.
• 5+ years in a manufacturing engineering environment
• 2+ years experience in customer-facing role a plus

Skills required

• Computer – MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Aptean M2M ERP.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
