Plastics Engineer
Job Summary
Responsibilities include part design and development, materials selection and quotation of Plastic parts. As well as any injection molding tooling associated with its manufacture. Establishes manufacturing control and quality plans. Needs to be able to interact professionally with customers at a high level.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design plastics or injection-mold fabrication processes.
- Create and improve injection-mold machinery processes.
- Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
- Analyze manufacturing data and suggest improvements.
- Analyze production capabilities of manufacturing machinery lines.
- Ensure quality output of molded components.
- Develop and design engineered plastic parts, insert molding of parts and assemblies.
- Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal resources.
- Establish the parameters for an optimal molding environment.
- Design necessary secondary operation components.
- Analyze quality control plans for proper implementation.
- Work with other team members and vendors.
- Analyze Moldflow data as well as finite element analysis, stress/fatigue analysis.
- Assist in mold design of both hot/cold runner molds.
- Develop 3D solid part designs. (SolidWorks knowledge preferred)
- Moldflow mold-filling simulations knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: B. Sc in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Polymer, or Plastics Engineering or other related engineering discipline.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Must have 3-5 years’ experience working with new customers or existing customers for new projects that involve injection molding, product design, quoting and trouble shooting
- Working knowledge and application with the following: polymer material properties, plastic injection molding, surface treatment and functionalities, heat transfer, and other related topics.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong initiative, self-directed and takes action on opportunities.
- Proven problem-solving ability, good documentation skills, and good manufacturing practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks) and ability to model moderately complex parts.
