Job Description
SUMMARY
We invite applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, teaching faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to begin August 2026. The area of clinical practice specialization(s) is open. The teaching load is 10 courses over the course of 12 months, and includes service in accordance with responsibilities and interests. The position includes online and in-person teaching with most courses in the department’s Social Work programs. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching, expertise in online teaching, experience teaching in a multicultural environment, and a deep commitment to ongoing learning with best teaching practices. The position is a two-year, twelve-month, non-tenure track (NTT) appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTT procedures.
THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK AND CHILD ADVOCACY
The Department of Social Work and Child Advocacy (SWCA) at Montclair State University is a community of interdisciplinary scholars and practitioners who prepare undergraduate and graduate students to be leaders in the promotion of child and family wellbeing. Guided by the principles of social, economic, and racial justice, we combine the fields of psychology, social work, and law to improve lives at every stage of human development. We promote child advocacy and social work initiatives to serve the wider community. Our interdisciplinary curriculum equips graduates with the requisite knowledge and skills in policies and systems, human development, and evidence-based as well as culturally-responsive practices. The curriculum is delivered to students through both face-to-face and online teaching modalities.
In our Department, we develop professionals who embody inclusive practices, serve their communities, and center justice in their activities. Our vibrant department, which is home to over 800 students, has 20 faculty -- 13 in research-teaching positions and 7 in teaching positions along with six professional staff colleagues. The department offers an MSW with a concentration in clinical practice with children, youth, and families, a BA and MA in Child Advocacy and Policy, and minors in Child Advocacy and Policy as well as Social Work. In addition, the department is preparing to launch a fully online MSW track to better meet the needs of students and the communities we serve.
THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is Montclair State’s largest college, with over 5,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. CHSS also aims to be responsive to the needs of society, including via its championing of use-inspired research collaboratively undertaken by faculty and students, and graduate programs that train students to apply knowledge in constructive, inspiring, and practical ways that benefit our local and broader communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: MSW degree from CSWE-accredited program and a doctorate in social work or allied profession required
Record of success teaching in a diverse environment using evidence-informed inclusive practices; minimum three years of teaching experience.
Minimum of 2 years post-MSW clinical practice experience and clinical licensure
Ability and willingness to teach research, clinical practice and practicum courses informed by diversity research
Experience teaching clinical practice courses synchronously or asynchronously in an online MSW program, preferred
Experience developing online courses, preferred
STARTING DATE August 28, 2026

$84,980.24-$92,367.13 Annually
