Join Our Culinary Leadership Team as a Sous Chef at the Rescue Mission of Trenton!
Are you a highly skilled culinarian with a passion for both exceptional food and empowering individuals? Do you thrive in a dynamic kitchen environment and possess a heart for service and education? The Rescue Mission of Trenton is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sous Chef to play a pivotal role in our kitchen operations and our transformative culinary training program.
At the Rescue Mission, we believe in restoring hope and transforming lives. As our Sous Chef, you'll work hand-in-hand with our Chef and Kitchen Manager, ensuring our residents and guests receive nourishing, high-quality meals. This is a unique opportunity to blend your advanced culinary expertise with a profound social impact.
What You'll Do:
- Lead Culinary Excellence: Assist the Chef and Kitchen Manager in overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, meal preparation, cooking, and serving for a diverse population, maintaining the highest standards of quality, presentation, and food safety.
- Empower Through Education: Work directly with clients in our culinary training program, providing hands-on instruction, guidance, and mentorship in all areas of kitchen operations and culinary techniques.
- Support & Collaborate: Partner closely with the Chef and Kitchen Manager to ensure seamless kitchen flow, efficient resource management, and a cohesive team environment.
- Innovate & Create: Contribute to menu planning, recipe development, and the continuous improvement of our food service and culinary training programs.
- Maintain High Standards: Ensure strict adherence to all food safety regulations (ServSafe certification is a must!) and sanitation protocols, setting an example for staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Inspire & Mentor: Foster a positive, supportive, and educational atmosphere for all kitchen staff, volunteers, and culinary program participants.
We're Looking for Someone Who Is:
- An Accomplished Culinarion: Proven experience as a Sous Chef or higher in a professional kitchen, with a strong background in high-volume production and diverse menu planning.
- A Natural Teacher: Prior experience in training, teaching, or mentoring in a culinary context is highly desirable. You genuinely enjoy sharing your knowledge and seeing others develop.
- A Food Safety Expert: Possesses a current ServSafe Manager certification and an in-depth understanding of all health and safety regulations.
- A Collaborative Leader: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and inspire growth in others.
- Highly Organized & Adaptable: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Compassionate & Mission-Driven: Possesses a genuine desire to serve others and aligns with the mission and values of the Rescue Mission of Trenton.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of progressive culinary experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or instructional role.
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training required.
- Experience working with culinary participants or structured training programs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Deep knowledge of classical and modern culinary techniques.
- ServSafe Food Handler Certification required.
- Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 40l(k) Retirement Plan and PTO
- Opportunities for professional development and advancement
- A collaborative, education-focused culinary environment
- Make a Dual Impact: Your advanced culinary skills will directly feed those in need and empower individuals with life-changing professional skills.
- Meaningful Work: Be part of a dedicated team committed to a cause greater than themselves, where your expertise makes a profound difference every single day.
- Leadership Opportunity: Work alongside seasoned professionals in a collaborative and compassionate environment where your contributions are highly valued.
- Shape Futures: Play a direct role in the success and growth of our clients as they embark on new culinary careers.
If you're ready to bring your culinary excellence, your passion for teaching, and your compassionate spirit to a role that truly transforms lives, we encourage you to apply! Join the Rescue Mission of Trenton and help us provide hope, healing, healthy meals, and valuable skills to our community.
