Overview
Highlight Health is a mission-driven company that protects consumer rights and controls healthcare costs for self-funded plans. We are a profitable, fast-growing company without private equity investors. We're at an exciting inflection point where we are transforming our company to be more agile, scaling our tech and product team, and preparing for our first digital product launches in 2026.
Highlight Health is redefining cost containment for self-funded health plans, participants, and stop-loss carriers. We save money for plans and participants, while assisting plan sponsors in fulfilling their fiduciary duties. We are an independent, nationally recognized healthcare cost containment company that uses innovative technology and sound industry knowledge and experience to drive success. Our combination of expertise and technology sets the industry standard for independent healthcare cost containment and guidance services. Our team has passion for their work and the company’s impact on healthcare costs.
We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to initially take ownership of our new externally facing customer portal, followed by future products we will be launching. This is a high visibility, high-growth potential position. The portal is a mission-critical application for the continued rapid growth of our business. Because we are a still a small company, you will initially wear three hats: Product Manager (defining what to build based on customer and internal stakeholder needs), Product Owner (translating vision into actionable user stories and managing the backlog), and Project Manager (ensuring on time delivery and stakeholder communication). This is a player-coach role where you'll be hands-on with the team daily while also setting strategy, managing up to executive leadership, and team building. Although this role resides in the Technology department, you'll work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Client Success, and directly with customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Product Management:
- Own the Partner Portal roadmap (3-6 month view aligned with company goals) and subsequent product roadmaps
- Conduct customer interviews and gather feedback (Internal stakeholders are considered key customers as well).
- Work with Sales, Client Success, Operations, and executive leadership to prioritize features.
- Make build/buy/partner decisions in collaboration with the CTO.
- Define success metrics and track product performance (adoption, usage, satisfaction).
- Identify market opportunities and competitive threats.
- Understand the healthcare claims domain deeply and translate customer workflows into product requirements.
- Own future new product launches (external and internal).
- Product Owner:
- Groom and prioritize the product backlog in Azure DevOps to keep the team 2 sprints ahead.
- Write user stories with clear acceptance criteria that the team can execute on.
- Lead sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives on a bi-weekly cadence.
- Answer team questions daily and unblock developers when they hit roadblocks.
- Accept completed work and validate against requirements and quality standards.
- Collaborate with design on wireframes and with QA on test plans.
- Bridge between technical team and business stakeholders by translating needs in both directions.
- Project Management:
- Track delivery timelines and identify risks early before they become blockers.
- Provide weekly status updates to executive team on progress, risks, and achievements.
- Coordinate across teams (development, operations, sales, client success) to ensure alignment.
- Manage dependencies with external vendors
- Facilitate decision-making when blockers arise and escalate appropriately.
- Document decisions and maintain project artifacts for team visibility and stakeholder communication.
- Team Leadership:
- Work with the CTO to develop product development capabilities and expand the team.
- An individual contributor first and a hands-on approach to daily teamwork
- Coach a growing technical team (10 people today, 15+ by mid-year) on Agile best practices.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
- Work closely with Lead Developer, DevOps Engineer, and Data Engineer to balance features with technical sustainability.
- Advocate for technical debt and infrastructure work alongside feature development.
- Support the hiring of nearshore developers and their integration into the team

- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar Agile project management tools.
