The Rescue Mission of Trenton is seeking a dedicated and experienced Chef to lead our entire kitchen operation and champion our transformative culinary training program. At the Rescue Mission, we believe in restoring hope and transforming lives. As our Chef, you'll be at the forefront of this mission, ensuring our residents and guests receive nourishing, high-quality meals—nearly 1,000 a day! You will also take a leading role in implementing our culinary training program, empowering individuals to gain valuable skills and secure meaningful employment. What You'll Do:- Lead Kitchen Operations: Under the leadership of the Kitchen Manager you will take full ownership of the day-to-day management of our bustling kitchen, overseeing meal planning, preparation, cooking, and serving for a diverse population, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, presentation, and food safety.
- Mentor & Manage: Directly supervise and empower our Sous Chef and a dedicated team of client volunteers, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and supportive work environment.
- Champion Culinary Training: In collaboration with our consultant, spearhead the implementation, development, and ongoing growth of our dynamic culinary training program. This includes curriculum development, hands-on instruction, and participant mentorship.
- Nourish & Innovate: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, appealing, and nutritious meals, adhering to all dietary guidelines and food safety standards. Continuously seek opportunities to innovate menus and enhance the dining experience.
- Optimize Resources: Working with the Kitchen Manager, develop and implement inventory control, order supplies efficiently and within budget, seek out opportunities for sustainability and waste reduction.
- Maintain Excellence: Ensure strict adherence to all food safety regulations ( current ServSafe Manager certification is required ) and sanitation protocols, setting the benchmark for the entire team.
- An Accomplished Chef: Proven experience in a high-volume kitchen leadership role (Executive Chef or equivalent) with a strong background in diverse menu planning and large-scale food production.
- A Passionate Educator & Mentor: Demonstrated experience in training, teaching, or mentoring in a culinary context. You're passionate about empowering individuals and fostering skill development.
- A Master of Food Safety: Possesses a current ServSafe Manager certification and an in-depth understanding of all health and safety regulations.
- A Visionary Leader: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a diverse team.
- Strategic & Organized: Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities, a keen eye for detail, and the strategic foresight to develop and execute long-term culinary goals.
- Compassionate & Mission-Driven: Possesses a genuine desire to serve others and aligns deeply with the mission and values of the Rescue Mission of Trenton.
