About the Role:
The Vet Assistant, Tech Assistant at Essex Animal Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality medical care to animals. This position involves assisting with patient handling, preparing animals for examinations and procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment. The role requires effective communication with pet owners to provide information and comfort, ensuring a positive experience for both animals and their families. The assistant will also be responsible for managing medical supplies and equipment, contributing to the smooth operation of the hospital. Ultimately, this position is vital in facilitating efficient veterinary services and promoting animal health and welfare within the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience or formal training as a veterinary assistant or in animal care.
- Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behavior, and common medical procedures.
- Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate attitude towards animals and their owners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and veterinary software systems.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency care for animals.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures by restraining and handling animals safely.
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning, sterilizing instruments, and setting up necessary equipment.
- Monitor and record vital signs of animals, such as temperature, pulse, and respiration, and report any abnormalities to the veterinary team.
- Provide compassionate care and support to animals recovering from procedures, including feeding, exercising, and administering medications as directed.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners by answering questions, providing instructions for at-home care, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper storage and disposal of materials in compliance with hospital protocols.
