Senior Industrial Reliability Technician
Your day at a glance
When production starts humming, you’re already a step ahead—reviewing CMMS history, planning proactive tasks, and walking the floor for early signs of wear. Mid-shift, you’re deep into a complex break-fix: isolating a fault, disassembling a drive assembly, inspecting components for defects, and restoring operation with precise adjustments. By the end of the day, you’ve sourced replacement parts, updated maintenance records, mentored a junior tech through a PLC issue, and contributed ideas to a continuous improvement initiative that boosts uptime and saves costs.
What you’ll own
- Perform advanced corrective and preventive maintenance, from root-cause diagnosis through functional testing and return-to-service.
- Pinpoint failures by observing equipment in operation, disassembling to access faulty components, inspecting for imperfections, and repairing or replacing parts as needed.
- Calibrate and tune mechanical subsystems and control instrumentation; verify performance and conduct electrical and mechanical system checks.
- Recondition and repair machine tools and production assets to extend service life.
- Independently execute maintenance work aligned with industry best practices and site standards.
- Identify, source, and procure parts, materials, and specialized repair items.
- Set up and operate standard shop equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools) to fabricate or repair parts; perform welding when required.
- Adhere to 5S, housekeeping, and safe work practices at all times; maintain strong situational awareness to flag and mitigate hazards.
- Engage in continuous improvement—document process wins, track results, and support cost-saving initiatives.
- Use predictive maintenance tools to capture and interpret equipment performance data.
- Troubleshoot control systems, resolving software, hardware, and configuration issues.
- Update work orders and asset histories in the CMMS with clear, complete documentation.
- Support teammates by guiding lower-level technicians and occasionally leading small task teams; take on advanced work to build breadth and depth.
- Pursue on-the-job learning and technical self-study to advance your career.
What you bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- Either (a) an associate degree with a technical focus plus 3+ years of relevant industrial experience; (b) 5+ years of related industrial experience; or (c) successful completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
- Solid grasp of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems with proven troubleshooting ability.
- Comfort with basic hand tools and appropriate specialty tools.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Technical strengths
- PLC diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Mechanical fault isolation and repair
- Pneumatic systems maintenance
- Safe work across 120/208/240/480 VAC systems
- Conveyor chain inspection and replacement
- Hydraulic system service
- Electrical troubleshooting and component-level repairs
- General maintenance and repair across industrial equipment
Physical demands and environment
This role is hands-on in a factory setting with significant noise. Expect frequent standing and walking; fine hand work; reaching; climbing or descending with ladders or lifts; balancing at height; and entering tight spaces to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl. You’ll regularly communicate in person, use close and color vision, and may at times sit. Occasionally lift and move items over 50 lbs. Conditions may include outdoor exposure and potential electrical shock hazards. Surfaces can be greasy or slippery, and hazardous materials may be present—PPE and safe practices are essential.
