POSITION SUMMARY
Camp Falcon - Princeton YMCA June 8th-August 28th
Camp Falcon is seeking a Camp Health Director to support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Health Director will ensure a safe environment for the children during camp. The ideal candidate must love children, possess strong communication skills, and be alert. Individuals must be at least 21 years of age . The individual must be a nursing professional, nursing student, or an EMT and have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure, above all else, campers are safe.
- Ensure each camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required on Camp Docs.
- Organize all camper medication and set up a “dispensing system” with medication binder(s) with instructions.
- Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary, ensuring the timely arrival of supplies.
- Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
- Check, maintain, and issue first aid kits when needed.
- Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid, and the use of universal precautions for infectious control.
- Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment.
- Care for ill or injured campers or staff
- Providing First Aid for minor injuries and illnesses: Cuts, scrapes, and bruises; Dehydration; Sunburn; Homesickness
- Monitor the health of all staff.
- Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and calling 911.
- Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions at the camp.
- Perform Program Support duties as needed.
SAFETY:
- Attend regular staff meetings scheduled
- Must attend and complete all required trainings.
- At all times uphold camp safety standards. Will understand and practice risk management and disaster policies and procedures.
- Must follow all Association Aquatics Policy Guidelines.
- Take on designated assignments for aquatic activities. Help expedite arrival and departure from the pool (i.e. dressing rooms, etc.).
- Follow all YMCA, ACA, and NJ Licensing standards and procedures to ensure the safest and best quality camp and to help maintain ACA accreditation.
- Secure and submit all accident reports.
- Report all immediate concerns to Camp Director or nearest supervisor.
- Help to ensure supervision, safety, expedient procedures and fun activities on the bus. Lead bus songs, stories and games.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Always maintain a professional demeanor, as you are a representative of the YMCA.
- Wear Camp T-shirt daily.
- Maintain positive attitude, responsibility and self-motivation. Be punctual and reliable.
- Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum five years of experience working at a camp or related experience working with children in a leadership capacity
- Must be able to independently lead, plan, and actively participate in a variety of activities
- Experience in supervision
- At least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Excellent communication skills. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
