Job Title: Audit & Tax Preparer / Senior (Public Accounting)
Location: Clifton, NJ

CornerStone Professional Placement has partnered with a growing public accounting firm in their search for an experienced Audit & Tax professional to lead client engagements across both attest and tax functions. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who can manage audits, support tax preparation, and build strong client relationships while mentoring junior staff.

We are seeking a polished, detail-oriented professional who can balance multiple engagements while delivering high-quality work and providing proactive client guidance.

Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage multiple audit engagements simultaneously, ensuring high-quality work and timely delivery
* Oversee audit planning, fieldwork, and completion in accordance with GAAS and firm standards
* Review workpapers, financial statements, and audit reports for accuracy and compliance
* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships
* Identify accounting, audit, and operational issues and provide practical solutions
* Supervise, mentor, and develop staff through coaching and performance feedback
* Manage engagement budgets, staffing, and timelines for efficiency and profitability

Tax Preparation:
* Prepare and file federal and state individual and small business tax returns
* Review financial records and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
* Identify deductions, credits, and tax-saving opportunities for clients
* Communicate directly with clients to gather information and explain return details

Requirements:
* 5-7 years of audit experience in public accounting
* 2+ years of tax preparation experience preferred (flexible for strong candidates)
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
* Active CPA or plan to complete within 12 months
* Knowledge of federal and NJ/NY state tax laws
* Experience with tax software (CCH Axcess preferred)
* Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, ProSystem, Engagement, Knowledge Coach preferred)
* Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills

Compensation and Benefits:
* Employment Type: Direct Hire
* Schedule: Full-Time
* Location: On-site (Clifton, NJ)
* Salary: $115,000 base
