Role Overview
The Packaging Lead is responsible for coordinating line workers’ activities to ensure their assigned packaging goals are met in compliance with all quality and safety SOPs and cGMP’s. The successful candidate will monitor, manage, and maintain equipment, operators, and processes to ensure compliance to GMP’s and safety standards. This is a working Lead role and will be required to support a station on the line.
The ideal candidate will also have strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, time management and organizational skills, will be highly motivated, self-directed, and accountable, and will have the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff across the organization.
Areas of Responsibility
- Coordinates with the supervisor and other Leads on an as needed basis to establish schedules, job assignments and packaging sequences to meet packaging goals.
- Communicates with Supervisor to resolve employee issues and take appropriate action.
- Must be available to attend training seminars/classes as needed.
- Delivers and manages work assignments of packaging operators (both USPL and temporary agency).
- Coordinates break rotation schedules in a timely manner that complies with labor laws and maintains production flow.
- Communicates all applicable line production information to the Supervisor in shift hand-off to ensure smooth transition.
- Continually inspects raw materials and finished goods to ensure safe, quality nutritionals of the highest standard.
- Continually monitors processes and finished goods to ensure all is within specification, so as to catch & resolve any error or malfunction as soon as possible and prevent waste.
- Replenishs supplies, and ensure proper tools are available to operators to support efficient packaging.
- Follows safety protocol to ensure that warehouse is accessible and safe for everyone.
- Communicates any hazards, and/or pest sighting to appropriate department for a timely resolution.
- Ensures all items on the line shadow boards are intact and accounted for.
- Maintains proper gowning and hygiene to ensure integrity of the product as per cGMP’s and company policies.
- Follows batch records, SOP’s, and cGMP’s guidelines to ensure product specifications and tolerances are met.
- Ensures full compliance with Company policies, procedures, GMP’s, Ethical Business Practice, and SOP’s at all times.
- Establishes and maintain effective relationship with employees, line leaders, supervisors, and senior managers to communicate effectively.
- Provides clear direction and expectations for direct reports and assures that tasks and responsibilities are clear.
- Develops employees that contribute to the daily success of the line and can be successful in the supervisor’s absence.
- Identifies strengths and weaknesses of all associates on their team to ensure optimal performance; knows which employees they can assign additional tasks to, and which need closer scrutiny.
- Responsible for ensuring each employee works in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace. Complies with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
- Ensures all associates are trained and following all standard operating procedures.
- Works extended hours and occasional weekend overtime.

Requirements
Education & Qualification:
- High School Degree/GED and/or 2+ years Supervisory experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in nutritionals, supplements, food or pharmaceutical manufacturing industries is preferred.

Skills & Ability
- Able to follow packaging schedules and assign personnel to the packaging lines to ensure all SOP and cGMP’s are being followed.
- Must have a thorough understanding of the cause and prevention of common packaging line problems.
- Must be able to follow all instructions in batch cards and sign off as required.
- Demonstrates ability to work in a team and assist others.
- Bi-Lingual in Spanish or Hindi is a plus.
- Able to follow written instructions precisely and perform basic math calculations as required.
- Understands and is knowledgeable of cGMP, OSHA standards etc.
- Mechanically inclined to understand inner workings of equipment.
- Able to read/write in basic English in order to understand industry regulated documents.
Physical Requirements (lifting, etc.):
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs.; occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Able to travel between warehouse/distribution facilities, to meet and support departments in the Company and its customers.
- Able stand and walk a minimum of 6 hours per shift
- Uses hands to finger, handle or feel, or to operate or to control objects. Lifting to waist height and/or above shoulder height, frequent bending from waist, or squatting, walking short distances.
- Able to occasionally work on a rolling ladder or step stool, or to lean over equipment as well as kneeling on the floor to clean under the equipment.
- Able to wear all PPE including lab coat, face mask, booties, gloves, safety glasses/goggles and respirator.
Work Environment (Office, Warehouse, temperature extremes, etc.):
- Work is regularly performed inside a manufacturing environment where temperatures can be moderate, exposure to dust, odors, noise, and fumes. The noise level is usually moderate. Employees can be exposed daily to chemicals and cleaning agents.
