Rail Traffic Controller

The Rail Traffic Controller will provide safe, reliable and comfortable service for our customers by dispatching LRV Operators, instructing them of possible hazards and by directing rail traffic through radio and signal communication.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with LRV Operators to ensure safe operation of trains by providing signal authority to proceed, effective and frequent radio communication regarding operational instructions and hazards, and verbal permissions compliant with operating and safety rules
- Problem solve non-routine situations; develop and implement temporary operations strategies during service disruptions
- Coordinate freight operations with Conrail personnel in compliance with Temporal Separation
- Support Trainmaster & Road Foreman by arranging Operator coverage for unscheduled absences
- Work with and understand FRA hours of service requirements as applied to relevant crafts
- Ensure proper notifications are made for emergencies or any applicable event
- Keep accurate records on the operation of LRVs (scheduled and unscheduled) and freight trains, equipment movements and locations in the CLRC and TLF, the application and removal of blocking devices, and LRV inspections and washing, and the Daily Log of events that have occurred on the railroad
- Work with the Vehicle Maintenance Department and operators to ensure inspection and servicing of LRVs daily in compliance with contractual requirements
- Work with the Maintenance of Way Department to ensure authority is provided in the prescribed manner to allow for twice-weekly track inspections and on-track protection is provided for on-ground personnel working on or about the track.
Required Profile:
- High School Diploma
- BA or BS; Associate’s Degree (Desirable)
- Previous railroad experience in operations (Desirable)
- Able to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Comfortable making decisions in high pressure, time sensitive situations
- Comfortable issuing instructions to employees of various crafts to allow for safe operation and maintenance activities
