Position Overview

MAX Fitness & Wellness is looking for a motivating, reliable, and high-energy Lead Instructor to join our team in Berkeley . This role is ideal for someone who loves coaching group fitness, leading from the front, and creating an energetic, welcoming environment where members feel supported and challenged.

The Lead Instructor will primarily be responsible for teaching classes, writing class plans, and supporting the overall class experience in the center. Early morning availability is essential , with classes starting as early as 5:00 AM .

Key Responsibilities

• Teach 10–15 group fitness classes per week , including early morning classes (starting at 5:00 AM)

• Deliver high-energy, safe, and effective workouts aligned with the MAX Fitness & Wellness programming

• Write and prepare structured class plans to ensure consistency, variety, and progression

• Coach proper form, offer modifications, and motivate members of all fitness levels

• Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment that reflects the MAX community culture

• Provide minimal administrative support as needed (class notes, basic communication, etc.)

• Serve as a leader within the instructor team by setting the tone for professionalism, energy, and member engagement

Qualifications

• Group fitness instruction experience preferred (boxing, strength training, HIIT, or similar formats a plus)

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• High energy, positive attitude, and genuine passion for helping others succeed

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable leading early morning classes

• Ability to confidently coach groups while also connecting one-on-one with members

• CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain)

Schedule & Compensation

• 10–15 classes per week

• Early morning availability required (5:00 AM start times)

• $24/hour
