About the Role:
The Medical Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors in a healthcare setting, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This role is critical in managing patient flow and maintaining accurate patient records to support clinical operations. The Medical Receptionist facilitates clear communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff, contributing to the overall quality of care. They handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism, adhering to healthcare regulations and privacy standards. Ultimately, this position supports the smooth operation of the medical office by combining administrative expertise with compassionate patient interaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish and English.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and check in patients upon arrival, verifying personal and insurance information accurately.
- Confirm patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Answer incoming calls, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff.
- Maintain and update patient records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
- Collect co-pays and process payments, providing receipts and managing billing inquiries.
- Coordinate with medical staff to prepare patients for appointments and communicate any delays or changes.
- Manage office supplies and ensure the reception area is organized and welcoming.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents as needed.
