The Madison Area YMCA has an immediate need for a part-time Bus Driver. The Bus Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive demeanor. Program sites include transporting children after school from Madison, Chatham, and Florham Park Elementary Schools as well as preschool aged children from our childcare center to family center facility for enrichment programs.

Wednesday - Friday: 1pm-2:30pm

Monday - Friday afternoons: 2pm-4pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
• Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
• Promotes safety at all times and keeps first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
• Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• The Bus Driver may not be left alone with children at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
• Possess valid, Class B license and P&S Endorsement
• Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
• Must pass a criminal background and drug test.
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to work with irregular work hours.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time while maintaining alertness. May also require bending, kneeling, leaning and walking.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids is possible.
• Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Ability to withstand a wide range of outside temperatures – heat, cold, wind, rain.
