The Chemical Handler is responsible for supporting production operations by safely retrieving, preparing, mixing, handling, and disposing of chemicals used throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrieve, add, mix, and handle chemicals used in the production process.
- Read, understand, and follow all Lab Operating Procedures to ensure chemical dumps, remakes, and related processes are completed properly.
- Ensure chemical waste is properly labeled and handled in accordance with OSHA standards and internal safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate chemical inventory records and provide inventory counts as needed.
- Support production schedules by ensuring chemicals and related materials are prepared and available on time.
- Maintain and assist with electroless chemical processes and wastewater treatment operations.
- Load and unload chemical waste as required.
- Assist with general housekeeping throughout the plant when needed.
- Report accidents, safety violations, equipment issues, or other concerns immediately.
- Follow all safety and quality regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in chemical handling, manufacturing, lab operations, wastewater treatment, or a related environment preferred.
- Understanding of basic chemical processes.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
- Forklift experience preferred, but not required.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with team members and support process and quality improvements.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, crouch, lift heavy objects, operate tools, and wear required safety gear for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
