The role
This role sits in Insurance Operations to ensure effective utilization and maintenance of key underwriting processes and systems. Partner with the AVP, Senior Underwriting Services Manager and Line of Business Leaders to develop a scalable business process re-engineering roadmap, applying a best practice approach. Lead the development and translation of operational business requirements for workflow solutions, modifications, enhancements, etc., liaising with IT/other internal and external stakeholders to help achieve business outcomes. Key accountabilities
- Contribute functional strategy development/prioritize operational deliverables to support business targets
- Support in BPO/IT vendor evaluation for US Insurance portfolio and review RFI/RFP for potential vendors
- In-house product ownership for Magic Submission, other applications/products in the US Insurance Portfolio (Duck Creek)
- Support management with performance of IT services, both internally and through 3rd party suppliers, to support the service expectations of the business
- Support governance framework to ensure best practice and compliance with internal/external regulations
- Create offer construct/influence alignment to define standards, complete build tasks and activities and socialize cross-functionally, they are understood clearly
- Proactively manage any issues, risks, roadblocks to deliver the offer per the committed timeline
- Support design, development, implementation and coordination of IT systems and associated policies and procedures to facilitate effective business support
- Understand interfaces/data flows across systems, to flag downstream impacts. Ensure security of data, network access/backup systems for legal compliance and business continuity
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities to increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility
- Works with key stakeholders/business managers to support with the development of sustainable IT systems and services and monitoring of progress to achieve business strategy/plans
- Combine business insights with emerging and/or existing technologies while identifying and prioritizing value-creation opportunities to deliver service-value to end users and customers
- Act as single point of contact for new demand coming from Ops, the Line Of Business, or Shared Services, for all US Insurance applications enhancement requests - responsible for assessment of the requests and prioritizing/scheduling with the impacted IT Delivery Teams
- Run change control meetings present change requests from business to budget owners for all applications currently under management
- Liaise with external third party vendors, Compliance, Finance, Legal and Aspen IT Delivery Leads. Contributes to the delivery of a cost-effective Insurance Operations service, which contributes to Aspen's overall profitability and business performance
- Create and capture requirements, tracking changes, identifying risks and issues for escalation, and monitoring and reporting on work and progress
Skills & experience
- Strong knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
- Associate degree in computer science, or equivalent experience
- Good working knowledge of ITIL Service Delivery processes (preferably with formal certification)
- Knowledge of the industry's best practice processes with particular emphasis on Bermuda
- Understanding of underlying needs of the business and how own role contributes to these
- Business and financial awareness of the impact of service levels
- Strong level of numeracy and literacy skills. Able to manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers at all levels and explain technical solutions to non-technical audiences, inclusive of understanding/empathizing with customers while remaining committed to providing quality results with positive service
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills. Ability to analyze data and use for decision-making
- Proficient in relevant software, including MS Office applications. Able to work independently
- Ability to apply discretion resulting in appropriate/desired resolutions
- A can do attitude with flexibility over what tasks, especially in regard to front-line support, are undertaken to deliver service
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment. Previous experience in writing business requirements as a Product Owner working in an Agile Framework for Scrum Methodology, grooming the backlog, and continuous improvement mind-set
- Previous underwriting systems experience. Specific professional qualifications at the level of degree or equivalent (e.g. computer science, management of information systems or similar)
- Qualified within own personal discipline, with extensive post-qualification work experience (4-6 years as a Business Analyst in a global IT organization) to include: Evidence of understanding and supporting operational systems and process flows, Working as part of a senior team within a complex organization (preferably within financial services or Reinsurance industry)
