Logistics Operations Manager — Steel Deck & Rebar Distribution
Lead the daily movement of steel, build resilient routes, and keep customers thrilled
At OEG Building Materials Company, our steel decks and rebar keep projects moving. As our Logistics Operations Manager, you’ll orchestrate trucks, drivers, and timelines so every delivery lands safely and on schedule. You’ll report to the Chief Operating Officer and serve as the hub connecting operations, customers, and the road.
A day in this role
Morning starts with route finalization—matching drivers, equipment, and loads to the day’s priorities across the Tri-State and Northeast corridor. You review hours-of-service, verify U.S. DOT compliance, and ensure each route packet includes keys, tickets, maps, and backhaul purchase orders. Throughout the day, you coordinate pickups and deliveries, field calls, reroute as conditions change, and coach drivers for both performance and customer care. You’ll approve fleet repairs, track monthly miles and fuel usage, and audit manifests and on-road behavior to keep quality and safety high.
What you’ll lead
- End-to-end transportation for steel deck and rebar deliveries and pickups.
- Daily scheduling of drivers, trucks, and equipment; building efficient route plans that balance cost and service.
- Driver performance management: on-road supervision, manifest reviews, observations, and constructive feedback.
- Safety leadership: driver safety meetings, active role on the safety committee, field audits, and training.
- Regulatory stewardship: monitor driver logs, verify available hours of service, administer D.O.T. regulations, conduct inspections, and maintain all required vehicle stickers.
- Fleet upkeep and administration: maintenance, repairs, approvals, and dispute resolution.
- Operational metrics: maintain miles and fuel usage logs; compile month‑end totals and optimize routes by stops, time, and weight.
- Staffing and development: schedule routes and day‑off coverage; train new and existing drivers; hold the team accountable and apply discipline when necessary.
- Cross-location support: train the Transportation Coordinator at another location.
- Compliance programs: oversee quarterly random UDS & BAT testing selection.
- Other duties as assigned to support seamless operations.
What you bring
- Deep routing knowledge of the Tri-State and Northeast markets: New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, and the NYC metro.
- Minimum 3 years of operations/DOT experience and 2 years leading teams.
- Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B.
- Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, and Word; strong organizational skills and steady crisis management.
- Proven ability to motivate, train, coach, develop, and when needed, discipline team members.
- Experience creating and maintaining Driver Qualification Files.
