Supervisor, Point of Care, Full Time Days, AHOMC
Job Description
Under the Lab Manager's supervision, the Supervisor, Point of Care Testing ensures quality patient testing outside the lab, oversees specimen processing, test performance, and troubleshooting. Must be competent in CLIA high/moderate complexity testing and support the POCT program across clinical departments through coordination, implementation, and maintenance.
- Section Administration: Responsible for point of care testing technologies and various laboratory operations for the appropriate section(s). Establishes and implements policies and procedures in collaboration with associated departments throughout the organization. Oversees personnel and ensure appropriate coverage, as applicable. Actively participating in bench-level tasks when operational needs arise.
- Technical Operations: Provides technical guidance and resource for section(s), evaluates and implements new procedures and instrumentation. Oversees technical performance of the section assuring that results are reliable and accurate.
- Quality Control: Following quality control policies, documents all related activities, and maintains records of instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance. Analyzes, reviews results, monitors compliance with the Quality Control Plan standard operating procedures.
- Financial Responsibility: Supports budget preparation and monitors financial performance, identifies cost-saving opportunities, recommends capital purchases, and ensures efficient inventory management by maintaining supply levels and monitoring expiration dates.
- Communication: Leads and participates in system and site committees and team meetings, communicates key lab and site updates, addresses incident reports with follow-up actions, and collaborates across departments to support Atlantic Health laboratory operations.
- Team Member Management: Effectively leads and develops team members by fostering a collaborative work environment, setting clear performance expectations, and supporting professional growth to ensure high-quality clinical outcomes. Conduct effective discipline and performance management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain required proficiency testing according to regulations. Monitor laboratory compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Coordinate self and onsite inspections. Maintains / reviews all documentation necessary for all regulatory compliance.
- Training: Oversees orientation, training, and competency of team members and students as assigned.
- Safety: Demonstrates knowledge and practice of all Atlantic Health and department safety procedures.
- Provide occasional remote "On Call" technical support for assigned sites, as needed.
- Travel between different sites is required.
Qualifications
Education:
Must meet the CLIA personnel requirements for High Complexity testing:
- MD or DO with a current medical license, OR
- Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science, OR
- Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science, OR
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological, OR
- Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training
- Foreign education credentials require US equivalency documentation by an AHS approved agency.
Must meet the CLIA requirements for General Supervisor:
- Qualified as a Director for high complexity testing, OR
- Qualified as a Technical Supervisor for high complexity testing, OR
- Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science with 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR
- Master's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR
- Associate degree in medical laboratory technology (or pulmonary function) and 2 years laboratory (or blood gas analysis) training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing
- Refer to the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1461 for additional qualifications
Experience and Certifications:
- Required six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience required
- ASCP, AMT or defined equivalent required or eligible; must pass exam within one year or when eligible per ASCP standards
