Job Description: Controller - Real Estate Private Equity
We're looking for a highly skilled and strategic Controller to lead the financial operations for our client, a dynamic real estate private equity firm in Newark, NJ. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in real estate finance and a proven ability to manage complex financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Management:
Lead all aspects of the accounting and finance functions, from preparing monthly and annual financial statements (GAAP) to managing general ledger operations.
Manage financial consolidation across multiple entities and ensure timely, accurate reporting for lenders, including debt covenant compliance.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Strategic Planning & Analysis:
Drive the annual budgeting process and create rolling forecasts and cash flow projections.
Provide executive leadership with insightful analysis on financial performance, identifying key trends and offering strategic recommendations.
Work closely with operational teams to align financial plans with overall business goals.
Debt & Treasury Oversight:
Manage all debt-related activities, including schedules, interest accruals, and amortization.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, and other financial partners.
Ensure full compliance with all loan agreements and reporting requirements.
Compliance & Auditing:
Lead the coordination of annual financial audits and lender reviews.
Ensure the firm's adherence to all tax, regulatory, and lender obligations.
Oversee the documentation and processes that support external audits and due diligence.
Team Leadership:
Mentor and lead the accounting team, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
Champion process improvements to enhance the efficiency and scalability of the finance department.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing expert guidance on all financial matters.
