Job Description
The Facilities Maintenance Technician maintains and improves a nationwide network of office locations by performing hands-on maintenance, repairs, and small projects. This role includes installing TVs and electronic devices, assembling office furniture, painting and wall repair, and troubleshooting basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building issues. The technician works closely with office management, staff, and vendors, travels frequently across the North East to support multiple sites, and helps identify and prepare new office spaces to support ongoing expansion while ensuring all facilities remain safe, functional, and professional.
Responsibilities
- Install and mount TVs, cameras, and other electronic devices in offices, ensuring all equipment is securely and correctly installed in line with safety and operational guidelines.
- Perform painting and wall maintenance, including full wall painting, touch-ups, patching holes, and repairing minor wall imperfections to maintain a professional office appearance.
- Assemble and install office furniture such as chairs, desks, tables, and other furnishings, ensuring all items are assembled accurately, safely, and according to specifications.
- Oversee maintenance projects from initiation to completion, including developing project plans, allocating resources, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with office management teams to schedule, prioritize, and organize maintenance tasks across multiple locations.
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders on the status of ongoing maintenance projects and promptly address any concerns or issues.
- Perform routine inspections of office facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical issues, including minor wiring, outlets, fixtures, and related systems within scope of facilities maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair basic plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, and minor fixture repairs.
- Support basic HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure comfortable and efficient office environments.
- Perform minor carpentry tasks, including repairs, adjustments, and small-scale construction or modifications.
- Handle general handyman tasks, including locksmith work, door and lock adjustments, and other small repairs as needed.
- Conduct outdoor maintenance around office entrances and parking lots to keep areas safe, clean, and presentable.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety standards and applicable local regulations.
- Follow safety protocols consistently and use appropriate personal protective equipment when performing maintenance tasks.
- Manage inventory of tools, supplies, and materials required for maintenance work, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Inspect, maintain, and properly store all tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in good working condition.
- Coordinate and schedule external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance or repairs beyond internal capabilities.
- Oversee vendor work to ensure it meets company quality standards, safety requirements, and agreed timelines.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including tasks performed, time spent, and materials used.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports to the Facilities Manager or leadership on the status and progress of maintenance projects and ongoing work.
- Travel frequently across the North East region to support multiple office locations and respond to maintenance needs.
- Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate urgent maintenance requests, including those in different time zones.
- Support the identification and preparation of new office spaces by assessing facility conditions and coordinating initial setup tasks.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance, handyman services, or a closely related role.
- Demonstrated expertise in electrical systems, safety protocols, and maintenance practices essential for efficient facilities operations.
- Strong knowledge of general maintenance procedures, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in painting, including surface preparation, patching, and finishing for walls and other surfaces.
- Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with a variety of building systems and components.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues and implement practical solutions.
- High attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with office management, staff, and vendors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively across multiple tasks and locations.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work in different office environments across the North East.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training in facilities maintenance or a related field is a plus.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and routine facility inspections.
- Familiarity with locksmith tasks and basic door hardware adjustments.
- Experience coordinating and overseeing external vendors and contractors.
- Comfort working at heights, including on ladders or scaffolding, when required for installations and repairs.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds safely.
- Ability to perform physical tasks that involve bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Background in troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical systems is beneficial.
- Experience as a maintenance technician or similar role in multi-site or corporate office environments is advantageous.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hackensack, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
