Structural Engineer, Building Design

AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client for a Structural Engineer to support building design and engineering projects. This role focuses on structural analysis, design development, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams across the project lifecycle.

The position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, collaborating with architects and engineers, and contributing to the successful delivery of building design projects. The Structural Engineer will support projects from early design through construction documentation while maintaining high standards for quality and code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for building systems including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures
• Prepare structural drawings, calculations, and technical documentation for construction packages
• Coordinate structural design with architects, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction phases
• Participate in site visits and field observations to verify structural installations
• Ensure designs comply with building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications
• Assist with structural modeling and analysis using industry-standard engineering software
• Support project managers with scheduling, deliverables, and technical coordination
• Maintain accurate documentation of design calculations and project decisions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
• 3–8 years of experience in structural engineering design or consulting
• Experience designing building structures using steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood
• Familiarity with structural analysis and modeling software commonly used in engineering consulting
• Strong understanding of structural design codes and building standards
• Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
• EIT certification preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) license or path toward licensure is a plus

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting commercial, institutional, or mixed-use building projects
• Experience with structural modeling tools and BIM coordination workflows
• Familiarity with construction administration and field coordination processes
• Experience working within consulting engineering environments
