Our client is a growing mechanical contracting business specialising in HVAC, fire sprinkler systems, equipment replacements, and system upgrades. With several large government contracts secured and significant room for growth, the business is now looking for a hands-on Accountant to strengthen its finance function and support the next stage of growth.

We are seeking a commercially minded construction accounting professional to take ownership of job costing, project profitability reporting, financial visibility, and system improvement. This is a key role for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, and working closely with leadership and operations in a practical, hands-on environment.

You’ll be responsible for

• Owning cost accounting, job costing, and project profitability reporting
• Producing accurate financial reports to support bonding, bids, and contract decisions
• Leading the move from QuickBooks to Sage
• Improving finance systems, controls, and reporting processes
• Working closely with leadership and project teams
• Supporting short-term admin cover during maternity leave

You’ll need

• Construction sector experience is essential
• Strong job costing, cost accounting, or project accounting experience
• Good financial reporting and analysis skills
• Experience with QuickBooks and Sage preferred
• Experience with bonding, audits, lenders, or government contracts beneficial
• Hands-on, detail-focused approach with high standards of accuracy
• Humble, professional attitude with the willingness to support where needed

Location

As the Cost Accountant you will be office-based in Long Branch, New Jersey , working 8:30am–5:00pm . There is the opportunity to work 1 day per week remotely.
