Job Summary

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of all dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment in a nursing home environment. This position supports dietary staff by ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen while complying with health, safety, and infection control regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, silverware, trays, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.

• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.

• Clean and sanitize kitchen work areas, sinks, floors, walls, and equipment.

• Remove trash and recycling from kitchen and dining areas.

• Maintain proper sanitation standards according to federal, state, and facility regulations.

• Assist with receiving and storing food and supply deliveries.

• Restock clean dishes, utensils, and supplies as needed.

• Follow infection control, safety, and hazardous material procedures.

• Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and supply shortages to supervisors.

• Support dietary staff with basic food service tasks as assigned.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

• Interact respectfully with residents, visitors, and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Previous dishwashing, food service, or healthcare experience preferred but not required.

• Knowledge of sanitation and food safety practices preferred.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

• Ability to lift up to 30–50 pounds.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to heat, moisture, and cleaning chemicals
