Director of Operations
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead field execution and project management operations across a multi-region roadway safety and infrastructure services environment. This role is responsible for overseeing concurrent roadway safety projects, driving operational consistency, ensuring financial performance, and advancing scalable operational processes. The Director of Operations will lead field crews, project managers, superintendents, and regional teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, project profitability, operational excellence, and team development. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in construction or industrial operations leadership, strong P&L management capabilities, and the ability to improve performance through lean process implementation, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making in fast-paced field environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead regional operations teams overseeing multiple concurrent roadway safety and infrastructure projects
- Manage field execution, operational performance, project delivery, and workforce coordination
- Oversee project management operations, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication
- Ensure projects move efficiently from project award through closeout with visibility into risk, margins, and performance
- Drive profitability through strong P&L oversight, cost control, revenue tracking, change order management, and financial analysis
- Implement lean operational improvements and scalable systems to improve efficiency, accountability, and consistency
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing field leadership and PMO teams
- Partner cross-functionally with estimating, engineering, safety, supply chain, and sales teams to support project success
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, roadway safety regulations, traffic control requirements, and company policies
- Lead operational reporting, project documentation, internal communications, and change management initiatives
- Visit project sites regularly to monitor operations, support teams, address client concerns, and maintain project quality
- Participate in strategic planning and business development initiatives as needed
- Support operational growth and continuous improvement efforts across multiple regions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Operations, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in construction, industrial services, or field operations environments
- At least 5 years of operational leadership and project management experience
- Experience managing geographically dispersed operations and multiple concurrent projects
- Strong financial management skills with demonstrated experience managing budgets, margins, forecasting, and P&L performance
- Proven operational leadership and field execution experience
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Experience leading project management functions, teams, and operational initiatives
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments
- Strong communication and team leadership capabilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools such as Procore, Smartsheet, and MS Project
- Valid driver's license with the ability to meet the company's driving requirements
- Ability to travel approximately 30% within the assigned region
Preferred Skills
- Experience within roadway safety, guardrail, heavy civil, or construction industries
- Experience managing relationships and projects involving state DOTs
- Proven success in implementing lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience overseeing regional operations across multiple locations
- Professional certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or OSHA certifications
- Strong change management and team development experience
- Ability to improve operational metrics through leadership and coaching
- Experience working in both field and office operational environments
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and active construction site environments
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, roadway environments, and high-noise job sites
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, and use standard office equipment regularly
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
- Travel requirement of approximately 30% within the assigned region
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation range: $155,000 – $185,000 plus benefits
