The College of Human Development Culture and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a Lecturer of Communication (contract faculty) position in the Department of Communication Media and the Arts beginning in August 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Communication Media and Arts fosters academic interdisciplinarity and its engaging curriculum primes students to immediately launch careers or to pursue advanced degrees. Students are prepared to practice in a multimedia world thanks to their experience with cutting-edge tools and unparalleled studio-based learning opportunities. They attain an experts facility with the complexity of sharing messages across all media to create shared meaning and understanding among diverse groups.

The candidate will be expected to maintain a strong presence on our South Orange NJ residential campus while engaging in an array of high-impact activities with students that include teaching advisement mentoring and academic program development.

The position entails a 12-credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (i.e. 4 courses per semester) commensurate with Department needs. Lecturers are initially appointed for a one-year term which may be renewed and extended for a period of up to three years by the University; there is no limit on the number of renewals that may be sought subject to Department and College needs. Lecturers are also eligible for promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer.

Duties and Responsibilities
*Lecturers teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester on the South Orange campus. Potential courses to be taught include COST 1600 Speaking and Listening in a Digital Age COMM 1670 Introduction to Communication Theory COMM 2623 Persuasive Speaking COMM 2625 Public and Presentational Speaking and COMM 2626 Rhetorical Criticism. Additional courses within the Department are possible commensurate with expertise;

Required Qualifications:

*Earned M.S. or M.A. from an accredited institution in a communication discipline (or related field).
*1 year of experience teaching communication to undergraduate students.
*Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively individually and in teams with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications:

*Ph.D. in communication discipline (or related field);
*Experience working with diverse populations or a strong commitment to multicultural education and inclusive practices;
*Experience teaching courses both on-campus and alternate modalities with demonstrated effectiveness;
*Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations research and academic innovation across the Colleges Academic Departments and University; and
*Candidates qualified for a secondary administrative appointment in Forensics are preferred. Desired qualifications related to Forensics include: (1) debate experience and tournament host; (2) significant individual events forensics coaching experience and successful record in all genres (e.g. public address limited preparation and interpretation); (3) travel to a minimum of 4-6 tournament weekends with students per semester including transportation rental and corresponding valid drivers license; and (4) evidence of ability to work with assistant coaches and Director of Forensics in a collaborative environment

*If applicable a secondary appointment related to Forensics requires a valid drivers license.

Salary Range:

$55071 - $61190
