We are seeking a reliable Wastewater Operator to support the operation and maintenance of our Caldwell NJ Wastewater Treatment Facility. Responsibilities include monitoring process conditions, performing routine equipment maintenance, collecting and submitting samples, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires participation in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend or holiday coverage. Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and clear communication are essential.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, alkalinity, etc., to monitor process conditions
- Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc.
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
- Assist to prepare monthly written operating report based on facility's operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
- Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
- Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of safety hazards
- Participate in 24 hour on call rotation
- Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors, or regulatory personnel
- Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
- Operate the plant to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
- Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
- Maintain accurate records for equipment run times, chemical inventory, timesheets, expenses, etc.
- Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for plant coverage
- Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
- Confined Space Entry this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- 1 year of wastewater experience, preferred
- Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays as requested
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as required
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Valid Driver's License required
- NJ Wastewater license required (S1 OR S2)
