A forklift operator uses power industrial trucks to load, unload and move materials within a warehouse. Key duties include operating machinery, loading and unloading trucks, stacking and organizing goods, performing equipment inspections, maintaining a safe work environment, and tracking inventory. This role is essential for keeping supply chains running efficiently and safely.

Core duties

• Material handling: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move, stack, and sort materials and products.
• Loading and unloading: Load and unload trucks, trailers, and other delivery vehicles.
• Warehouse organization: Move items to and from storage areas, production lines, and loading docks, often organizing them according to specific instructions.
• Inventory management: Track incoming and outgoing shipments, update inventory records, and ensure stock is rotated properly.
• Safety and maintenance: Conduct daily inspections of forklifts and other equipment, report any issues, and maintain a clean and safe work area. Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.

Essential skills and qualifications

• Certification: Must be a certified forklift operator.
• Safety awareness: Strong attention to safety is critical, especially in fast-paced environments.
• Physical stamina: The ability to perform manual tasks, sometimes including picking up items by hand, is often required.
• Attention to detail: Must be able to follow detailed instructions, perform quality checks on loads, and maintain accurate records.
• Coordination: Needs good coordination to operate the equipment safely and efficiently alongside other workers.
