Job SummaryThe Dietary Cook is responsible for providing nourishing, high-quality food to residents, guests, and employees under sanitary conditions. This role operates in accordance with established facility policies, medical prescriptions, and safety regulations to ensure an exceptional dining experience for our community.
Essential ResponsibilitiesMeal Preparation: Prepare, season, and cook large quantities of food following standardized recipes, daily menus, and production schedules.
Therapeutic Diets: Adapt and prepare meals tailored to specific resident medical requirements (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic, puree, thickened liquids) as prescribed by physicians and dietitians.
Sanitation & Safety: Strictly adhere to infection control, foodborne illness prevention, and sanitation guidelines. Monitor and log food, freezer, and refrigerator temperatures.
Quality Assurance: Inspect dining trays prior to service to ensure residents receive the correct diet, texture, and portion size. Monitor food usage to actively eliminate waste.
Kitchen Operations: Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of food service equipment, kitchen surfaces, and storage areas. Properly label, date, and store food to prevent contamination. Assist the supervisor in monitoring inventory and placing food supply orders when necessary.
Leadership: Coordinate the workflow and daily assignments of dining services aides and assistants during meal prep and clean-up.
Experience: Typically 1 to 2 years of professional cooking experience, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, assisted living environment, or healthcare setting.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Certifications: Current Food Handler certification or ServSafe certification is highly preferred. Must have a current Flu Shot (or be willing to obtain one).
Skills: Ability to cook a wide variety of foods in large quantities, strong time-management skills, and the ability to read, scale, and follow standardized recipes.
Requirements: Must have reliable transportation to and from the facility.
