For over 60 years, The Guidance Center has been a primary mental health support agency, providing compassionate, professional care to individuals and families in Cumberland County, NJ. As a non-profit organization, our dedicated team of professionals, including doctors, nurses, therapists, and support staff, works to diagnose and treat all types of mental illness.

As a new Residence Counselor in our Group Home, you will embark on an exciting journey filled with meaningful interactions and impactful support. Your daily responsibilities will encompass fostering a safe and nurturing environment for residents and assisting them with daily living skills, while helping to develop their personal goals. Engage in active listening and empathetic communication to build trust and rapport, empowering residents to express their needs and aspirations.

Collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals to implement individualized care plans and participate in group activities that promote social skills and community integration. You can anticipate conducting regular assessments to monitor progress, documenting interventions, and effectively communicating changes to the team. Furthermore, you will actively participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your skill set, ensuring you’re equipped to provide the highest standard of care and support for our residents’ journeys.

To thrive as a Residence Counselor in our Group Home, certain skills and qualifications are essential for success. A minimum of four years of group home experience is crucial as it provides you with the knowledge and confidence to support residents effectively. A High School Diploma is required, ensuring a foundational understanding of the principles of care and communication. Strong interpersonal skills are vital; you must be empathetic, demonstrating an ability to connect with residents on a personal level and understand their unique needs. Active listening and excellent verbal communication capabilities will enable you to build trust and rapport.

Additionally, familiarity with tools and software used for documentation and progress tracking is important for maintaining accurate records and facilitating seamless teamwork. Being adaptable, problem-solving, and having a customer-centric mindset will empower you to provide the highest quality of care and make a lasting impact in the lives of the residents you serve.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
