School Nurse (Part-time)

Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled School Nurse to join a specialized educational program serving adolescents. This role blends clinical expertise with health education, ensuring students receive the medical support and knowledge needed for their overall well-being. The School Nurse will also serve as a resource to staff by providing training on health-related topics and supporting compliance with health and safety policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely administer medications to students in accordance with physician directives, maintaining accurate records and monitoring effectiveness.
• Ensure secure storage of all prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
• Deliver health education to students, including guidance on medication self-management (e.g., asthma inhalers).
• Provide first aid and coordinate emergency care, including arranging hospital or clinic transfers when necessary.
• Track and document student health issues, screenings, immunizations, and significant health events.
• Monitor student health status to determine readiness for school activities, with special attention to communicable diseases.
• Communicate significant medical findings to parents/guardians and appropriate school staff.
• Participate in developing, updating, and implementing health and safety policies.
• Lead or assist with staff training on medical and health-related topics.
• Attend school meetings and collaborate with educational and administrative staff.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or related field)
• At least 3 years of professional nursing experience
• Current NJDOE School Nurse Certification (or eligibility for Emergency/Provisional Certification)
• Current AHA Basic Life Support certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with adolescents, families, and school personnel
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing or a related field
• Prior experience working with adolescents in a psychiatric or educational setting
