Parts Specialist - Generators
Position Summary
Modern Group is seeking a Generator Parts Associate to support the daily operations of our Service & Parts Department in Edison, NJ. As an authorized Generac dealer, Modern Group provides sales, service, and parts support for Generac generator systems.
This role will manage generator parts inventory, assist customers and technicians with parts identification and sourcing, process orders, and support service operations. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent phone and in-person interactions.Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Parts Management
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of generator parts, accessories, and related equipment.
- Order and restock parts as needed to maintain availability.
- Perform cycle counts and physical inventory audits to maintain accuracy.
- Receive, inspect, organize, and properly store incoming parts.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts area.
Customer & Technician Support
- Assist customers in identifying and purchasing the correct parts for their generator systems.
- Answer inbound calls and respond to parts-related questions from customers and branch personnel.
- Support road technicians by pulling, staging, and preparing parts for scheduled work.
- Assist technicians with on-site parts needs and urgent service requests.
- Research parts and provide accurate information for service quotes.
Order Processing & Shipping
- Process customer and technician parts orders accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and package parts for shipment, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Coordinate with shipping and receiving teams on incoming and outgoing parts.
- Track orders, backorders, and deliveries and communicate updates as needed.
- Process returns, exchanges, warranty claims, and core returns in accordance with company procedures.
Record Keeping & Systems
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, orders, sales transactions, and customer interactions.
- Update parts databases with current inventory, pricing, and product information.
- Utilize inventory management and parts lookup systems to research and identify components.
Product Knowledge
- Develop a working knowledge of generators, engines, and related components.
- Learn manufacturer-specific parts, applications, and systems.
- Stay current on new products and parts to better support customers and technicians.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Service, Sales, Warehouse, and other branch personnel to ensure parts are available when needed.
- Communicate effectively with technicians, customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in parts, inventory, customer service, or a related role preferred.
- Experience with generator, automotive, heavy equipment, forklift, or industrial parts required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn generator systems and components.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with inventory management systems and basic computer applications.
- Ability to lift and move parts and materials as required.
