Overview
The Solutions Engineer is an essential part of the OEM Sales Teams. The entry level Solutions Engineer I primarily acts as the technical liaison between customers and global Edmund Optics manufacturing sites for custom and modified optical components. Solutions Engineers I are also responsible for providing technical engineering support for managed and key unmanaged accounts. Additionally, Solutions Engineers I rely on instructions and established guidelines to perform job functions such as reviewing incoming custom requests for quote (RFQs), ensuring the technical and business feasibility of such requests, and working to establish market-competitive pricing and closing the sale.Responsibilities
Essential Functions:- Establish and grow engineer-to-engineer relationships at managed and key unmanaged customer accounts. Answer customer technical questions toward development of sales opportunities.
- Facilitate the custom sales process for custom opportunities from both managed and unmanaged accounts, including technical review for completeness and feasibility of incoming requests, and review customer POs and T&Cs for testing and documentation requirements.
- Recognize and communicate significant sales opportunities to Inside and Outside sales colleagues.
- Generate formal price quotations for custom and modified optical components. Ensure quoted pricing meets published guidelines and maximizes selling price and corporate gross margin while remaining market competitive.
- Work closely with other Solutions Engineers to stay current with manufacturing and test capabilities.
- Assist at industry tradeshows (up to 2-3 times per year) and visit customers with an Outside Sales Manager to develop customer contacts and identify significant sales opportunities.

- Experience with optical and mechanical design software a plus
- Basic optics knowledge/optics industry experience preferred
- US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) required
- Knowledgeable about sales processes
- Excellent telephone, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organization skills - able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
