Job Title: Utilities Mechanic, Process Controls
Location : South San Francisco, CA
Pay Rate : $32 per hour
Work Schedule:
This position is for the 1st shift, working Monday through Friday during standard business hours (8-hour shift, typically daytime). In addition to scheduled shift work, the Utilities Mechanic, Process Controls will be part of an on-call rotation and must be available to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed.

Position Summary:
As a Utilities Mechanic specializing in Process Controls, you will support a highly regulated cGMP manufacturing facility by maintaining, monitoring, and operating manufacturing and clean utility systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of production and clean utility infrastructure. Your daily responsibilities will include system monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of equipment and utility-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and record daily system readings for cGMP clean utility systems, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform, document, and report both planned and unplanned maintenance or repairs on cGMP clean utility and manufacturing equipment as directed by supervision.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of utility and manufacturing systems, including but not limited to:
    • Purified Water Generation and Distribution Systems
    • Clean Steam Generation Systems
    • Clean-In-Place Systems
    • Autoclaves and Glass Washers
    • Vacuum Systems
    • Manufacturing Process Vessels with ancillary pumps and valves
  • Respond to emergency equipment or systems calls as part of a rotating on-call schedule (24/7 availability required).
  • Maintain compliance with all cGMP, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or engineering discipline preferred.
  • 0–5 years’ experience in diagnostics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or a closely related industry.
  • Technical or trade school certification in electrical or mechanical systems strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.
  • Flexible availability to support emergency situations as they arise.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in systems such as valves, pumps, motors, seals, and bearings.
  • Working knowledge of process control systems, including PLCs, industrial maintenance, and computer-based control systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics (P&IDs, mechanical, electrical, controls).
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving ability in a technical environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in business correspondence and technical documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a collaborative approach to team environments.
  • Computer proficiency in Google Docs, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
