Maintenance Mechanic Trainee – Water/Wastewater

🕒 Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Join a vital team supporting water and wastewater facility operations in Hoboken. We’re looking for a Mechanic-in-Training to assist in maintaining treatment plant equipment, performing repairs, and ensuring reliable service for the North Hudson Sewerage Authority.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and structures
• Lubricate and inspect machinery for wear and malfunctions
• Replace pump and valve packing, bearings, and other mechanical components
• Clean, paint, and perform light plumbing and pipefitting tasks
• Use welding equipment for basic cutting and joining tasks
• Support installation of new equipment and upkeep of maintenance records
• Maintain facility grounds, tools, and perform safety checks
• Follow all safety protocols to protect yourself and the team

Qualifications:

• Valid driver’s license with a clean record (required)
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment

Preferred (but not required):

• Experience with water/wastewater plant or industrial equipment
• Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) certification or ability to obtain within 3 years
• Forklift operation experience
• Understanding of safe work practices and municipal utility service
