Job Overview:
The Unit Secretary provides clerical and receptionist support for the unit and is the communication link of the multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Comprehension of medical terminology
Scheduling Requirements:
- Per Diem Day
Essential Functions:
- Acts as a receptionist to all customers.
- Adapts to varying work requirements dependent on the unit’s needs
- Answers phones/intercoms in a courteous and timely manner, screens calls and refers messages appropriately
- Assists in the flow of department work processes by running errands to other departments as requested
- Functions in an emergency situation as a team member with guidance from supervisory personnel
- Maintains adequate supply of clerical materials
- Maintains proper order of patient charts as per established guidelines
- Participates in financial control through appropriate use of supplies and adherence to charging mechanisms
- Performs duties to support the nursing staff
- Processes the flow of information on the nursing unit and when appropriate, with outside institutions and individuals as directed
- Provides accurate computer data entry of information
- Sorts and distributes mail
- Transcribes physician orders from medical record into informational system
