About us:

The New Jersey Expanding Capabilities Center (NJECC) is a progressive day habilitation program, servicing adults 21+ with developmental disabilities to be as functional and independent in their day-to-day lives as possible. Our program will provide our clients with the opportunity to participate within their community, gain knowledge and skills to complete day-to-day tasks, as well as practice and engage in social interactions and relationships. Clients will also be provided with access to therapeutic services, including but not limited to occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. These therapeutic services not only allow for continuity of care for our clients just recently graduating from high school, but continued opportunity to develop independent living skills.

Job Descri ption :

Direct Support Professionals assists individuals with disabilities in the successful completion of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) by teaching functional skills to be used in their day-to-day. Direct Support Professionals will also promote community integration by accompanying the program participants on recreational outings with the goal to improve socialization and communication skills. Direct Support Professionals should take an individualized approach when serving the program participants, complying with the agency’s mission and vision to provide person-centered care. Direct Support Professionals are to present themselves in a professional manner while providing an effective environment for participants to complete their day-to-day tasks and responsibilities in the program. Direct Support Professionals are to report to the Program Director and are expected to complete the tasks on their job description plus anything additionally asked of them by their supervisors. All Direct Support Professionals, while employed or thereafter, must comply with any and all investigations involving DDD, OOL, DHS, and/or APS.

This is an entry-level position, ideal for professionals starting their career in the human services field or for anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of the amazing individuals get to work with every day.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Follow the Participant’s Individualized Service Plan to assure that their daily activities align with their individualized goals and implement programs created to use with individuals, based on their specific needs

· Adhere to the agency’s incident reporting policies and procedures and report all incidents per state mandate

· Contribute to client’s individualized plan of care with the opportunity to help them function most efficiently in the community and grow in the work field

· Complete all necessary pieces of training required to successfully complete job duties, their job role within the allotted training time frames mandated by the DDD Guidelines

· Maintain a clean and organized workspace while maintaining an open line of communication with supervisors and co-workers

· Create and implement programming to use with individuals, based on their specific needs

· Ability to collect data from clients and input it in our online system daily

· Establish positive relationships with the individuals being served, as well as their family members and/or caregivers and guardians

· Adhere to the agency’s confidentiality policy, as per HIPAA mandate

· Must be able to administer medications, and complete ongoing training to remain certified

· Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from work in order to adhere to the agency’s attendance policy

Qualifications

· High School Diploma or GED required. College degree in the field of human services (or related fields) preferred

· RBT Certification preferred

· Experience in the social service field serving the intellectually disabled population preferred

· Strong communication skills, awareness of advocacy needs, empathetic towards others, strong willingness to learn, concrete boundaries, and reliable

· Basic timekeeping, reading, math, and computer skills are required

· For Staff required to drive: Valid NJ Driver’s License; must be 18+ and clean driving record, with little or no points. Reliable means of transportation and proof of insurance.

· Able to drive a company van while abiding by all NJ Motor Vehicles driving requirements (not to exceed 5 points for staff who are required to drive)Valid NJ Driver’s License; must be 18+

· Valid NJ Driver’s License; must be 18+

· Required to pass a background check, drug test, TB test and record verification. Complete fingerprinting process prior to hire as well as any other requirements mandated by the DDD.

· The ability to climb stairs, check under furniture at floor level, and lift up to 50 pounds is required

· The physical ability to assist in lifting may be required

Job Type: We have full time, part-time and on-call substitute opportunities available. Salary: $12 to $15/hour depending on education and experience.

Location: we are located in Little Ferry, NJ and in Ramsey, NJ. Ability to work in both locations desired
