Dental Hygienist - Oral Health Educator

Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers, Inc. Children's Oral Health Program is seeking a part-time (12 hrs./week - two6 hour days) for a 40 week position (mid-September to mid-June)dental hygienist to implement oral health education programs in Atlantic, Cape May, Burlingtonand Ocean Counties.

The goal of the Program is to improve the oral health status of New Jersey school children, specifically targeting high-need/high-risk schools in identified counties. This position reports to the Regional Oral Health Coordinator.

Responsibilities include:

• Conduct outreach and oral health education programs in identified high risk schools

• Coordinate program activities/special initiativesand supply distribution with participating schools

• Provide regular progress updates and program reports to Regional Oral Health Coordinator

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate/applicant will possess the following:

o Enthusiasm for promoting children's oral health

o Strong organization skills and attention to detail

o Ability to work independently

o Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); public speaking

o Experience providing oral health education for audiences in a school or community-based setting

Reliable transportation is necessary. The candidate will travel to schools and identified community organizations to conduct education programs and distribute program supplies. Candidate must also attend 2 statewide meetings per year. Candidate should be able to lift 30 lbs. Dental hygienists with volunteer experience are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will be asked to present a brief tooth brushing demonstration for school aged children as part of the interview process.
