Title: Youth Development Specialist

Location: SBYSP—All Sites

Reports to: Site Administrator/Director

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor Degree in a related field preferred or Associate Degree with documentation of at least three years full-time experience as a youth service worker.

Qualifications: Two years’ experience working with youth and families. Demonstrate ability and interest in working with youth. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Bi-lingual, English/Spanish is a plus. Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word & Excel). Ability to collaborate with school and community clubs and organizations.

General Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborate with the SBYSP leadership to develop and implement programming for the Mentor and Leadership Group.
  • Support students with securing volunteer/youth services projects.
  • Supports students with job readiness skills, resuming writing, job interview etiquette, etc.
  • Forging partnerships with community partners and securing resources that are relevant and appropriate to meet the needs of the students and families the SBYASP serves.
  • Coordinates activities that help to nurture student connectedness to school and positive peer relations.
  • Engages in activities to support students’ caregivers, the goal being to facilitate student success and wellbeing.
  • Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates all programs and activities including education, athletics, arts & crafts, technology and games room.
  • Develop and foster healthy relationships, with all members, at the assigned shared space.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Submit data into the state program Connex
  • Apply the use of EBP—Evidence Based Program
  • Checks all email accounts daily.
  • Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of member and quality of programs at all times.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Plan, organize and implement a range of noncompetitive programs and activities for drop in members and visitors daily.
  • Initiate new and creative program activities—promoting and stimulating program participation.
  • Identify opportunities for implementing new programs to benefit student members.
  • Monitor and evaluate program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participate in staff meetings.
  • To supervise members and ensure a healthy and safe environment.
  • Manage facilities and ensure a productive environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order.
  • Recommend and requisition supplies needed for projects and or activities.
  • Recruit, train and manage assigned volunteers; provide ongoing feedback; identify and support development opportunities.
  • Engage parents regarding opportunities and expectations of members, as well as inspire participation.
  • Work with staff on special events and facilitate programs in any department when needed.
  • Schedules events, activities, coordinates and collaborates with school and community personnel including broadcasting of events/activities.
  • Secures venue and coordinates transportation.
  • Performs all administrative tasks as directed.
  • Work with Site Administrator/Director to prepare activities budget.
  • Adhere to all program and school activity policies and procedures.
  • Maintain communication with organizations staff (professional and volunteer), members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions.
  • Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member’s parents and other interested parties to assist in resolving problems.
  • Complete any required or mandated trainings and/or professional development.
