Our client is a top regional law firm with a strong reputation for excellence, professionalism, and client service. They are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Manager to join their New Jersey office.

This is an opportunity to step into a high-visibility leadership role within a respected professional services environment, partnering closely with HR, Finance, and Firm leadership to ensure operational excellence and compliance across payroll and benefits functions.

The Payroll & Benefits Manager will oversee accurate, compliant, and timely multi-state payroll processing while managing firmwide benefits programs and driving continuous process improvement.

This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and plays a key role in delivering a seamless employee experience across payroll, benefits, and reporting functions.

HYBRID ROLE - 3 DAYS ONSITE

• Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing , ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.

• Oversee administration of firmwide benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and leave programs.

• Serve as the primary liaison with payroll and benefits vendors.

• Lead annual open enrollment planning and employee communications.

• Conduct regular payroll and benefits audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.

• Monitor and implement updates related to federal, state, and local wage and tax laws.

• Support compensation-related reporting including W-2 processing, ACA filings, 401(k) compliance testing, and audit preparation.

• Provide responsive and professional employee support for payroll and benefits inquiries.

• Collaborate with HR and Finance leadership on system enhancements, reporting improvements, and firmwide initiatives.

• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

• 5+ years of payroll and benefits experience (law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred).

• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and experience managing employees across multiple jurisdictions.

• Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems ( ADP preferred ) and advanced Excel skills.

• Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a collaborative mindset.

• Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Preferred Certifications: CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP, or related certification.
