Position Overview
Title: CFO
Location: Montclair, NJ
Reports To: CEO
Job Description
The Financial Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensure strong internal controls, manage financial reporting, and support the leadership team with accurate financial analysis. This role is ideal for a detail-driven finance leader experienced in consumer goods or food- import/distribution environments, with deep command of operational finance, ERP systems, Excel, and other financial applications.
This is a Hybrid position in Montclair, NJ.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
· Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, inventory accounting, and general ledger.
· Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
· Manage cash flow forecasting, daily treasury operations, and banking relationships.
· Prepare internal management reports: P&L, balance sheet, COGS analysis, overhead analysis, and margin reporting.
· Lead month-end and year-end close processes with speed and accuracy.
· · Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, inventory accounting, and general ledger.
Inventory, COGS and Supply-Chain Finance
· Maintain accurate landed-cost calculations, inclusive of freight, duties, tariffs, ports fees and inland logistics.
· Reconcile inventory across 3PL warehouses, in-transit goods, and ERP system records.
· Analyze shrink, obsolescence, and expiry risks; implement better controls and reporting.
· Support procurement with SKU-level margin analysis and cost forecasting.
· Build and maintain MRP/ERP-driven inventory valuation reports.
ERP, Systems and Process Improvement
· Oversee and optimize the companies ERP workflows (QuickBooks + any linked WMS/MRP/ERP modules)
· Improve financial processes, standard operating procedures, and system automation.
· Improve new tools or upgrades to scale the business (EDI, advanced inventory modules, etc.)
· Partner with operations and sales to ensure clean data flow across systems.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Partnering
· Lead the annual budgeting process and provide monthly budget-vs-actual variance analysis.
· Prepare rolling forecasts for revenue, gross margin, SG&A, and cash flow.
· Support pricing decisions, margin improvement strategies, and SKU profitability analysis.
· Provide analytical insights for growth planning, SKU rationalization, and channel performance.
Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
· Ensure compliance with Federal/State tax requirements, including sales tax, payroll taxes, and duty documentation.
· Establish and maintain strong internal controls around spending, purchasing and inventory.
· Oversee insurance renewals, workers compensation audits and risk-related documentation.
Skills Required
· Minimum 10 years of experience as a CFO, Financial Controller or VP of Finance in a consumer goods, import, distribution, or food-service business.
· Strong understanding of COGS, landed cost, inventory accounting and SKU level profitability.
· Expert proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, modeling, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP/SUMIFS/Power Query preferred).
· Expert proficiency in QuickBooks and hands on experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
· Strong analytical skills, organizational skills, and communication skills.
· Ability to work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in a company with import logistics, 3PL warehousing and cross-border inventory.
· Experience implementing or migrating to a new ERP system.
· Background supporting a company scaling from $10m → $100m+.
