  • After a 6-week ramp-up period requiring 5 days in the office, this position will shift to a hybrid schedule of 4 days in-office and 1 day remote each week.*

Job Overview

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of our VMware, Windows, Linux, and storage environments. You’ll work closely with the Lead Systems Engineer, as well as networking, security, and operations teams, to maintain and improve a hybrid infrastructure that supports our life-saving services.

Key Responsibilities

VMware & Virtualization Infrastructure

  • Deploy, manage, and monitor VMware infrastructure including ESXi hosts, vSphere clusters, and vCenter across production environments.
  • Support and maintain the Horizon VDI environment, including gold image updates, tuning, and stability.
  • Build and cable physical servers, ensuring integration with network, power, and storage infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the Networking team to align VLANs, switching, and virtual networking within VMware.
  • Monitor and perform upgrades across VMware infrastructure.

Systems & Infrastructure Management

  • Administer Windows Server and Linux systems in a hybrid environment (primarily Windows, some Linux).
  • Manage SAN storage arrays, including provisioning, performance, and capacity planning.
  • Support rack-and-stack, cabling, and data center best practices for power/cooling.
  • Contribute to system design and implementation for new projects under the guidance of the Lead Systems Engineer.
  • Participate in incident response and escalations, troubleshooting complex issues and contributing to root cause analysis.

Cloud & Automation

  • Provide support for workloads integrated with cloud services (AWS familiarity expected).
  • Assist in hybrid infrastructure initiatives as directed by the Lead Systems Engineer.
  • Use automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, Ansible) when possible to streamline operations (nice-to-have).

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Systems, Networking, Security, and Operations teams to ensure smooth infrastructure operations.
  • Document systems, processes, and solutions to maintain a high standard of operational readiness.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, stakeholders, and management regarding project and operational status.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills

  • 3–5 years of experience in IT systems engineering.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and Horizon (VDI).
  • Proven experience administering Windows Server environments, with some Linux exposure.
  • Experience managing SAN storage and performing rack-and-stack/data center work.
  • Strong troubleshooting and escalation response skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Industry certifications (VMware, AWS, Microsoft, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ITIL, service management, or compliance frameworks such as SOC 2.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior team members.
