The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently seeking a certified, experienced, and motivational, Tae-Kwon-Do - Martial Arts Program Instructor .
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization, just 5 miles west of New York City in the waterfront city of Perth Amboy, NJ. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility.
Under the guidance of the Senior Program Director, the Tae-Kwon-Do - Martial Arts Program Instructor is responsible for teaching students the techniques, forms, and principles of Tae-Kwon Do, emphasizing discipline, respect, and self-control. They lead structured classes tailored to various skill levels and age groups, focusing on physical conditioning, proper kicking and striking techniques, sparring, and self-defense. The Tae-Kwon-Do - Martial Arts Instructor assess student progress, prepare students for belt tests and competitions, and provides individualized guidance and encouragement. Administrative tasks may also include managing class schedules, maintaining equipment, and communicating with students, parents, members.
The Tae-Kwon-Do - Martial Arts Instructor also supports and promotes the organization’s mission by embodying the core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Faith, while demonstrating cause-driven leadership through the YMCA Leadership Competencies: Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness, and Personal Growth.
Responsibilities include:
- Sets up and break down class equipment before and after class; promptly report equipment issues or maintenance needs.
- Under the YMCA guidelines, plan and lead Tae-Kwon Do classes for members and participants of varying ages and skill levels, ensuring progression in technique, discipline, and physical conditioning – under the YMCA guidelines.
- Promote and model the values of Tae-Kwon Do, including respect, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback; prepare students for belt promotion tests and tournaments as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, adapting instruction to meet individual learning styles and needs.
- Communicate regularly with students (and parents/guardians, if applicable) regarding class expectations, progress, and upcoming events or testing.

Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Tae-Kwon-Do Certification.
- CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Previous Instructor experience; leading classes.
- Strong ability to engage, motivate, and build positive rapport with members and staff.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively with a team.
